Honestly, the fallout from the Sommers event has been both unsurprising and completely amazing. I truly thought better of my classmates, y’all, and I see now how naive I was. So many folks are upset over the negative light that the media is painting our school in over the protests disrupting Sommers’ talk – but all the negative stories written about it so far have been published on conserviative and alt-right trash sites. Why do y’all want alt-righties to think well of you?? The one reputable, reasonable newsite that has written about the event wrote in support of the protests, so I’m thinking our school rep will be just fine.

gen z and millennials have something in common

together, we make one giant existentialist meme-loving generation

think about it. alternate universes. existential crises. late night depression memeing sessions.

the reason older generations are trying to pit us against each other with this tide pods crap is they know we’re strong enough to overthrow them together

we’re strong enough to overthrow them together

I guess Christina Hoff Sommers is speaking on my campus this coming week, so that’s happening. Ye gods, I don’t understand why people think that allowing anti-feminists to speak is “getting the perspective from the other side.” Like we all don’t already know that “the other side” sees women as lesser beings who should stop whining and be happy with what they already have. I know what these people think, please stop acting like I have to acknowledge the people who think I should take off my shoes and get back in the kitchen.

Wish me luck today y’all because this shit has blown up hard. Several student groups co-signed a letter denouncing Sommers and calling for her to be disinvited to campus (PS – we’re a private institution so 1st Amendment issues aren’t a huge concern), she got her grubby mitts on the letter and posted it to Twitter to mock our school. I tried reading through some of the comments because apparently she’s replying to and liking a whole bunch of them, but they got super anti-semitic super fast and that’s a little too much for me before my coffee.

So to review, today on campus we will have (1) Sommers, (2) protestors, (3) the Oregon Supreme Court hearing cases, which means we will also have (4) armed marshalls.

“I have gone out, a possessed witch,
haunting the black air, braver at night;
dreaming evil, I have done my hitch
over the plain houses, light by light:
lonely thing, twelve-fingered, out of mind.
A woman like that is not a woman, quite.
I have been her kind.”
