Black and white interior illustrations for Fatal Throne: The Wives of Henry VIII Tell All, published by Schwartz & Wade. Each chapter is told from the perspective of one of the wives of Henry VIII by different YA authors. Each one of these illustrations show the heraldic badge of the wives and of Henry VIII.

Here’s (1) Queen Katherine of Aragon’s, showing a crowned pomegranate, and (2) Queen Catherine Parr’s, showing a crowned maiden rising from a Tudor rose.

Thanks so much to my AD Rachael Cole!

moon phases;

new moon: elaborate skin care routine, planning your outfit for the next day, looking for constellations, setting your alarm, sleeping in complete darkness, peacefulness

waxing crescent moon: lighting candles, keeping a journal by your bed, wishing on shooting stars, the sound of rain against a window, violet tones, lucky charms

first quarter moon: late night to meet your deadlines, glittering city lights, oversleeping, caffeine, the relief of falling into bed, coming home past midnight

waxing gibbous moon: anticipation for tomorrow, earphones in to relax, wild imagination, midnight storms, restlessness, talking on the phone in bed, checking the fridge at 1am

full moon: deep sleep, dreams that seem real, silk pillows, ice cream in bed, fresh sheets, bubble baths, a night in for yourself, the smell of lavender

Based on how Tolkien tended to write women (I’m thinking in particular of Luthien and Melian), I always imagine domestic life in the Tolkien household looking a lot like Gomez and Morticia Addams.

“John Ronald does literally worship the very ground I walk on, which is nice, but I do wish he’d clean his own goddamn study.”

–Edith Tolkien, probably

If you don’t think Galadriel and Arwen’s radiance was not due to how Tolkien saw his wife, I will fist fight you in a Denny’s parking lot in Nebraska.
