Liberté, égalité, femme-presenting titté
Oh ho what fresh hell is this?? Just went to my blogs home page and… maybe 50-60% of the posts I reblogged yesterday just aren’t there. Posts I reblogged this morning aren’t there. Posts I reblogged a few days ago aren’t there. Or they’re woefully out of order instead of chronological. On my own page. I have an exam this morning, but afterwards I’m straight up copy-pasting all my original content into a word doc before this whole thing goes tits up (couldn’t get wordpress to import properly and tbqh exams is not the time for me to be trying to figure it out).
i dont really… WANT… to leave tumblr. ive been here since 2011
no other platform has the right format for me to just randomly barf actual thoughts, joaks, and genuine creative content all in the same breath. i dont know how to compartmentalize
every other platform you gotta be a real person. Here you are you’re icon and username and whatever your hyperfixation is at the current moment
on tumblr you can make a post that just says “minecraft” and get 50k notes, where on twitter you have to steal tweets and instagram you have to be hot. tumblr is more like a bunch of kids let loose in walmart where there are no rules and the only god is a bald swedish man
When Tumblr bans porn, who loses?
A former staff engineer, who recently left Tumblr and asked to remain
anonymous for professional reasons, tells Vox that the NSFW ban was “in
the works for about six months as an official project,” adding that it
was given additional resources and named “Project X” in September,
shortly before it was announced to the rest of the company at an
all-hands meeting. “[The NSFW ban] was going to happen anyway,” the
former engineer told me. “Verizon pushed it out the door after the child
pornography thing and made the deadline sooner,” but the real problem
was always that Verizon couldn’t sell ads next to porn.Porn on Tumblr is something Verizon needs to wipe out if it’s going to
make any money off what it thinks is actually valuable about the
platform — enormous fandom and social justice communities that, just
before the Verizon acquisition, Khalaf was insisting the staff figure
out how to better monetize. On that note-
Two former Tumblr employees said they were alarmed when Khalaf chose
Black Lives Matter as an example of a community that the company should
focus on converting into Yahoo media consumers. One told The Verge,
“Simon explicitly said that Black Lives Matter was an opportunity to
[make] a ton of money.”Capitalism is disgusting and ruins everything.
Frodo…I swore to protect you.
#lotr#sometimes I think about how real authority – real kingship especially – is at heart service and submission#and how Aragon spends his life (ranger or king or friend) serving others#kneeling before them#affirming the kingship of other kings EVEN THOUGH he sometimes outkings them!!#and the moment of his greatest authority is really a submission of his will to his vocation#when I say I sometimes think about this#I mean easily 2-3 times a week (via byjovimbeinghumble)
#aragorn didn’t go to the hollywood school of ‘need is love’ #he went to the terrence rattigan school of ‘duty is love’ #duty as a positive and willingly-perfomed service #not without sacrifice but without doubt
hey friend! just wanted to give you a heads-up that that dick cheney movie is extremely critical of him and doesn’t at all portray him as a hero–the trailer is meant as a reflection of how he thought of himself, when actually he was a warmonger setting the u.s. on the path to democratic ruin (i.e. the 2016 election). so, definitely not a celebration of him! one less messed up thing in the world than we thought
Good to know!
I’m still of the mind that giving fascist fucks any air time at all is a bad idea though.
Hey ‘nonny, thanks for the tip! I’ve seen the trailer and I have no doubt that the movie is supposed to be critical of him and a reflection of how he though of himself – in fact I pretty much figured that was the case. My concern is that plenty of people won’t see it that way, and it is still providing, as madamehearthwitch says, a lot of airtime to someone who doesn’t deserve it. I can understand wanting to preserve history so as to keep from repeating it, but glamorous Hollywood movies that will inevitably glorify an anti-hero (no matter how much that is not their intent) is not the way to do it. I also have no faith that the movie will honestly portray the truth, and suspect that it will also add to the trend of softening/normalizing George Bush. If we want to shine a light on the atrocities committed by the Bush administration, I’m not entirely sure that a Hollywood movie (no matter how well-intentioned) is the best to do it.
