Instead of sitting on campus waiting for class to start, I would much rather be riding on horseback across a Scottish moor, clad in woolen skirts with deep pockets, knitting a sock and nibbling on some cheese while my horse carries me dutifully back towards my cozy cottage where a fire is crackling merrily in the hearth to ward against the early September chill.

Today I finally started to feel excited for fall. Usually my fall anticipation starts around mid-August, but it was a little late this year. This morning, I woke up with a subtle, yet undeniable longing for chilly mornings, changing leaves, pumpkin spice, snuggly sweaters, and perfect knitting weather.

I also tend to feel Brighid a little more closely in the fall. As the hearth fire gets rekindled, I feel her more palpably in my home. Like her fires hold me close as we enter the darker time of year. I think offerings will be in store later today. And perhaps this year the obligatory pumpkin spice candle goes on her shrine.

Starting to put together a playlist for the Witches and Wizards garden party my roommate and I are throwing labor day weekend. I’m literally 5 minutes into putting this together and have already fallen deep down a Uriah Heep hole. Btw, if y’all have any suggestions, send my your favorite witchy songs!

Yah know, I haven’t seen anything about it on tumblr yet, but pretty much all of Northern California is on fire. Yes, there’s the one in Redding that made national news because two firefighters have died fighting it, but there is also a large one that errupted this weekend in Mendocino County which has now spread to Napa and Lake Counties. It’s just East of Sonoma County which burned last October.

These fires in the Northern part of the state are challening to fight because once you get north of San Francisco, CA is incredibly rural. It’s also frightening that this is happening so early in the year. Northern CA doesn’t typically have its wildfire season until much later.

I’m planning on driving back up to Portland next week, and will probably be basing my route on what part of the state isn’t burning.
