at the therapist

me: this week has been so quiet and mysterious….I’ve been an 8 on the hozier scale of brooding and I’ve made love to the banshee

my therapist: for the last time “mysterious” is not a quantifiable mood and I don’t know what the fuck the hozier scale is

2 weeks later

my therapist, finally worn down by my nonsense: okay, you know what, tell me the scale

me, unrolling an ancient scroll i’ve been keeping in my rucksack for just this occasion:

1. awake at dawn communing with the owls

2. holding a wake for a fox i found in a forest that had hyacinths growing from its chest

3. titties

4. finding the baba yaga

5. covering myself from head to toe in peony petals and walking into the sea

6. swimming in a peat bog and discovering the toads are all lesbians

7. assembling ikea furniture for my wife

8. titties again, but avant garde

9. inviting the banshee in for tea

10. crawling into the moss within an old hollow log deep in the forest and eating out persephone

So wait inviting the banshee in for tea is a level higher than fucking her?

She’s got some comittment issues from spending all her life as a harbinger of death but she’s working through them and she’s grown up spiritually, hence a nice quiet meal being at a higher level than her rawing me in a bog!!

@bodaciousbanshee 😉

It’s true

Every single year the same things happens in Greece, every damn summer our country is burned, people lose their houses and families, then no one cares and the cycle repeats.

Its not just a weather issue, there is always a greater evil hidden behind all of this and nothing changes.

Last year my house almost burned, we were lucky on the last minute but I can still remember the fear of the people around me, running around and trying to help, the panicked animals and the sickening anxiety that I might lose my house and my cat.

Funny how when people think about Greece all they talk about is our economic crisis and shitty politicians (and even dare to act like they know everything about those matters), yet for some strange reason, when it comes to the refugee crisis, the tensions with Turkey or the fire catastrophes, silence ensues.

I’m positive that if it were a stronger country or a “popular” one getting burned, everyone would magically transform into Mother Teresa and pray, cry and reblog everything they can.

But no, this is Greece, the “joke of Europe”, or, as all fandoms here know it, “that one ancient country with the really cool mythology and gods”. No future or innocent people to worry about, right?

This is so true. I did a test yesterday: I reblogged posts about the Fire in both my blogs (one of them being a Greece travel blog, fancy that), overall potential of 6000 followers. The number of reblogs I got was disheartening. And the vast majority was from Greek followers.

Had I reblogged something pale in comparison about USA, or at least UK or at the very least France, people would be all over it.

Had I reblogged an idiotic headcanon about Apollo or Athena or an 100% accurate analysis of

Achilles and Patroclus’s relationship, people would reblog like crazy “oh wow how cool that is” .

I had photos of Santorini island and Ancient temples in my queue and they were posted, obviously getting more attention than the people and houses being on fire, right NOW.  Because bucket list goals, duh.

Speculations about if it’s Alexander’s tomb found in Egypt these days got like 300000 notes.

No one gives a shit about Greeks nowadays. No one gives a shit about small or weak countries. No one gives a shit about something that doesn’t affect them personally. I saw a Portuguese person reblogging the post because they said last year when Portugal was on fire, nobody cared and they didn’t want the same thing to happen to Greece. I feel terribly sorry and I salute that person.

And one more thing: those of you who claim you love Greece, Greek mythology, you are Philhellenes, you can explain in detail how Leonidas’ sacrifice affected the invasion of the Persians in the European continent or you even eat Gyros and dance Syrtaki, here’s a secret, you don’t know shit about Greece. Literally nothing.

Many of you might wonder “okay what is this sudden outburst, where did all this come from”. But I don’t care if it seems out of place. I know where it comes from and fellow Greeks know where it comes from. And that’s enough for me right now.

And you might wonder: “Ok are we obliged to love Greece?”. Of course not. You don’t have to love Greece. So don’t claim you do either because you do not really know shit about her. (it’s a she.)

In case anyone cares, there are more than 74 people dead, over 150 severely or critically injured and more than 600 houses burnt to the ground

I mean this as a honestly legit question from a non-greek European to you, the people affected by it:

What do you think are the best ways to help?

Other than simply caring (although what I get from your posts is that this too is a rare thing and I’m sorry to hear that). Because, caring about something is important and good, but for me what matters most are the actions caring leads to.

So, what actions can I take that would help you and the wildfire situation?

reblogging for the second reply. here’s what can you do:

Please pray for us here in Greece.

Three different places near Athens were destroyed by massive forest fires.

180+ people are severely injured and burnt.

50 people and counting were found dead on the streets, in their cars or houses, including families that were found hugging each other.

100+ are missing.

This is a national tragedy. So many were lost because of ARROGANT PEOPLE.

Spreading awareness. There’s no need for such things to happen, so many lives were destroyed for no reason.

as of 11 am, 25 July 2018, according to the Wall Street Journal:

  • 81 deaths confirmed, with no official count yet
  • some fires are still burning
  • there were no official evacuation orders for the effected areas
  • dozens of people fled into the sea to escape the flames; drowning fatalities are still being tallied
  • ~1 500 homes are destroyed
  • hundreds of cars are destroyed
  • 2 100+ hectares of forest are burnt
  • 186 people have been hospitalized, with 64 remaining, of whom 11 are in critical condition

not included in the article is the rumor that the simultaneous fires were an act of arson to clear out seaside property for resort development. don’t quote me on that, but that’s the going theory.

What can you tell me about brighid? What’s she been like as you’ve worked with her?

I’ve been mulling over this question for a while trying to decide how best to answer, because to be honest, I could probably fill up volumes writing about Brighid and my experiences with her and still not feel like I’ve described it properly. But after taking some time amd thinking about it, I’ve come up with this – Brighid is strength.

Brighid is the strength to speak the truth in any situation. Brighid is the strength to seek justice against all odds. Brighid is the strength to love fiercely and with abandon. Brighid is the strength to radiate kindness in an unkind world. Brighid is the strength to go against the status quo. Brighid is the strength to create a warm, safe, and happy home. Brighid is the strength to get back up when you’ve been knocked down. Brighid is the strength of holding your boundaries. Brighid is the strength of practicing forgiveness. Brighid is the strength of learning to care for yourself.

In my experience, working with Brighid has been an encouragement to find that strength within myself. Working with Brighid is extremely rewarding, and her presence is very comforting. In my experience, she has never asked more of me than I could handle, but she has pushed me to be a better person. In her name I strive to be kinder, to be braver, to stand up more for those experiencing injustice. In her name I strive to bring comfort and safety to my friends, my family, and to anyone else who may need it.

I hope this helps to answer your question.

I think the reason why Tolkien keeps referring to “the bow of Legolas” and “the voice of Legolas” and “the arrows of Legolas” is that he doesn’t want to write “Legolas’s”

it’s his own damn fault, he named the character. and you can’t even blame the language he got the name from, cause he made that one up too

The problem isn’t that “the country is divided” the problem is the increasing acceptance of fascism as a legitimate political position. Framing it as a problem of division puts those who want to kill the poor, LGBT people, and poc on equal moral footing with those who would like not to die.
